GARDASIL - Parents Need to Take Action

The Federal government has approved a $300-million immunization campaign to prevent HPV, a virus that causes cervical cancer.

The following article is a subject I am very passionate about and would be very interested in hearing your comments!

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Perry Kendall said nearly 50,000 school girls will be vaccinated against human papillomavirus (HPV) next fall if British Columbia implements his recommendations. 'The recommendations, and they haven't been finally approved yet within government, are for a program to start in September 2008 that would be routine for grade six girls,' said Kendall. The proposed program also includes three years of 'catch-up' inoculations for ninth-grade girls to cover those in grades seven, eight, and nine when the program starts, said Kendall. Vaccinating the girls in sixth and ninth grades is expected to cost around $18 million (US $17 million) annually.

We should all be concerned...

The maker of this vaccine to protect against HPV is a pharmaceutical company, Merck Frosst.  As some of you may remember, Merck Frosst is the maker of another drug which they told us was safe, VIOXX.  Currently there are several class action law suits against Merck which would potentially bankrupt this pharmaceutical company.

Merck has sold over 4 million doses of Gardasil in the U.S. and as a "blockbuster" drug it's expected to net over $1 billion in sales globally. In 2006 it was the third biggest selling "new molecular entity" in Canada netting $1.9 million. Just in time to boost the stockholder share price and to pay the legal bills.

Of the more than 25,000 patients who participated in clinical trials of Gardasil, only 1,184 were preteen girls aged 9-15.  The youngest were only tracked for untoward reactions for 18 months.  Who knows if there are going to be long term effects?

Fueling the controversy even further is whether girls should receive the vaccine years before they become sexually active, particularly since recent data from the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) has also uncovered over 1,600 adverse effects among Gardasil-vaccinated people in the general population, including 371 serious reactions.

There is no proof Gardasil will stop cervical cancer. They haven't been studying it long enough to make that claim!

What's the rush?

Why can't we get the information that we need first?" Abby Lippman, a professor in the department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health at McGill University in Montreal, told CBC News. "Clearly, this is a thin information base on which to construct a policy of mass vaccination for all girls aged 9 to 13," states the report.   "Most HPV infections are cleared spontaneously, within one year for about 70 per cent of women and within two years for 90 per cent. Cervical cancer will not develop in most women who are infected with even a high-risk strain of HPV," said the report.  The Canadian Cancer Institute ranks the probability of death from cervical cancer at 0.2 per cent, making it the second lowest ranking cancer threat in Canada.

There are twice as many children collapsing and four times as many children experiencing tingling, numbness and loss of sensation after getting a GARDASIL vaccination compared to those getting a Tdp (tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis) vaccination.

Judicial Watch, a U.S. government watchdog, became concerned while noting large donations to key politicians originating from Merck.  A freedom of information request from the group discovered that during the period from June 8, 2006 - when the vaccines received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) - to May 2007 there were 1,637 reports of adverse reactions to the HPV vaccine reported to the FDA.

Three deaths were related to the vaccine, including one of a 12-year-old.  One physician's assistant reported that a female patient "died of a blood clot three hours after getting the Gardasil vaccine." Two other reports, on girls 12 and 19, reported deaths relating to heart problems and/or blood clotting.

As of May 11, 2007, the 1,637 adverse vaccination reactions reported to the FDA via the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) included 371 serious reactions.  Of the 42 women who received the vaccine while pregnant, 18 experienced side effects ranging from spontaneous abortion to fetal abnormities.

Side effects published by Merck & Co. warn the public about potential pain, fever, nausea, dizziness and itching after receiving the vaccine.  Indeed, 77% of the adverse reactions reported are typical side effects to vaccinations.  But other more serious side effects reported include paralysis, Bells Palsy, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, and seizures.

Why is the Canadian Government using our children as guinea pigs?

If the Gardasil vaccine is introduced to “protect” our young daughters as part of the mandated vaccination program, parents need to question the decision and remember that those consent forms do not need to be signed!

In a book called “Selling Sickness”, Roy Moynihan (a medical journalist recently with the BritishMedical Journal) and Alan Cassels (a Canadian drug policy researcher at the Universityof Victoria) recount that 30 years ago, Henry Gadsden, chief executive of Merck, told Fortune magazine he wanted Merck “to be more like chewing gum maker Wrigley’s.” Gadsden said it had long been his dream to make drugs for healthy people, because then Merck would be able to “sell to everyone.”

Well, Merck has started their clinical trials on males now, as males can be carriers of the HPV infection.  I believe that the now deceased Mr. Gadsen is probably in lying in his grave chewing Wrigley’s gum with a great big smile on his face.  They have found their cash cow that they can market to every healthy child!

11 PEOPLE ON A  ROPE

Eleven people were hanging on a rope  under a helicopter, ten men and one woman.  The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one had to leave, because otherwise they were all going to fall. They weren't able to name that person, until the woman gave a very touching speech.

She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope, because, as a woman, she was used to giving up everything for her husband and kids or for men in general, and was used to always making sacrifices with little in return.

As soon as she finished her speech, all the men started clapping!
