It’s hard to believe that we are only a couple of weeks from Christmas! In the upcoming weeks take time to distress and don’t forget to work on those adrenals!
It’s been awhile since we addressed the subject of adrenal fatigue in our newsletter. A large proportion of all illness (perhaps 70-80%) is believed to occur because of stress: either levels are too high and/or persistent for longer periods of time. High-stress, modern living is probably the main factor causing chronic disease. read on...

The Adrenal Glands
After the stressful event is over, our adrenals return to baseline. We have all experienced this – who hasn't had an adrenaline rush with a near miss in traffic? We all know what the "rush" feels like: heat and power putting us on alert and an increased awareness of everything around us. Modern stress is different and it often doesn't stop. Instead of a brief encounter with a fight or flight event (as the body intended), our modern day stressors can be more subtle and more constant. Our demanding and pressure-packed lifestyles keep us constantly on alert. We may feel pressure throughout our entire waking day. We're under the burden of deadlines, bills, demanding schedules, traffic, marital issues, financial difficulties, etc. These perceived stresses can take a real toll on our adrenal health. At first, our adrenal glands respond to this constant stress by maintaining increased cortisol levels. Eventually, we lose the ability to sustain these levels, and our cortisol levels drop. Then we get into a state of adrenal fatigue – when "burning the candle at both ends" catches up with us. At this point, we begin to experience the symptoms of adrenal fatigue: burnout, exhaustion, erratic and intense perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms, increased PMS, decreased pain tolerance, over-reaction to minor stressors, and extreme cravings for sugar and salt. More Common Symptoms of Adrenal Dysfunction
Poor dietary habits; continuous stressors without perceived relief; unhappy relationships at work or at home; lack of exercise; lack of fun; no control over how you spend your time; or, feelings of powerlessness. What can make adrenal fatigue better? Having a proactive mindset; adequate sleep; calm environments; eating regularly to avoid low blood sugar; laughing often; yoga; rest and relaxation; deep breathing; and, saying no to requests from friends or colleagues when you have no time to fulfill them. SUPPLEMENTS TO HELP THE ADRENALS 1. Vitamin C – 500 to 1000mg with each meal. The highest concentration of vitamin C in the body is in the adrenals, where it is needed the most. Vitamin C helps the body repair and maintains connective tissue. It is a key catalyst of adrenal hormone production, including cortisol. 2. B#5 (Pantothenate) – 250 to 750mg daily. Pantothenic acid, as coenzyme A, is closely involved in adrenal cortex function and has come to be known as the "antistress" vitamin. It supports the adrenal glands to increase production of cortisol and other adrenal hormones to help counteract stress and enhance metabolism. 3. Adaptogens such as Rhodiola (by Thorne or Complimentary Prescriptions), Ashwagandha (AOR Gandha 750), Phytisone (by Thorne). 4. Adrenal Extracts such as Cortex by Thorne or OrthoAdapt by (AOR). TESTING CORTISOL LEVELS
Saliva testing is the best single lab test available for detecting adrenal fatigue and has several advantages over other lab tests in determining adrenal hormone levels. Saliva hormone levels are more indicative of the amount of hormone inside the cells where hormone reactions take place. By measuring your saliva hormone levels at four time points per day, you will be able to see for yourself where your cortisol levels are compared to the norms. |

IN THE NEWS... Scientists at Oxford University announced in the current issue of the British Lancet medical journal that low doses of aspirin greater than 75mg/day reduce the risk for fatal cancers of the colon and rectum, as well as reducing risks for dying from lung or prostate cancers. Specifically, a British research team unearthed evidence that a low-dose aspirin (75 milligrams) taken daily for at least five years brings about a 10 percent to 60 percent drop in fatalities depending on the type of cancer. So what is the magic behind the aspirin and reduced risk of cancer? Aspirin is an anti-inflammatory. Now, let me hasten to say -- aspirin is a common over-the-counter drug that most all of us have used, but there are some pretty substantial side effects possible from taking aspirin. Side-effect risk, even with low dose aspirin, include severe gastric bleeding and significant reductions in blood clotting. Rather than use aspirin long-term, why not go with natural anti-inflammatory that do not have these side effects? Two of these supplements are turmeric and fish oils. Both of these can have the same anti-inflammatory effect as low dose aspirin.
Supplement orders can be phoned into the office, emailed or placed online at www.prosupplements.ca For the remainder of the month, any order over the subtotal of $50 can be mailed by express post, free of shipping. Happy Holidays!

I was able to get off the Lorazepam first try/fairly quickly with the Theanine. The first work day off Lorazepam I took 2-3 Theanine throughout the day when I started feeling agitated. Second day only one and that was it. NO sleeping trouble either. I'd definitely recommend it as it really worked well for me.) I am actually feeling more calm and relaxed and don't get as anxious anymore, it must be the cream! Thanks Debbie for all that you have done for me to get back on track and feeling good again! You are certainly an angel !! PS - The vitamins have really helped my husband as well and the pain he use to experience in his foot he does not any more when walking or running. He is a happy camper and does not want to run out of the vitamins... I am writing to tell you that I am feeling 100 times better than when I first saw you! The care plan that you put in place has worked miracles!!! This is amazing! The other great thing about this care plan is that it has been in action for just over a month and the results are astonishing! I am so grateful that I went to your presentation and that I am under your care. I have never felt that someone in the medical field was really taking care of me as much and as well as you. Thank you seems like such a small word for how grateful and thankful I am to you. I feel like myself again and I feel energized and hopeful! WOW!! There is on average a 90% reduction in symptoms once you commit to follow the recommended care plan. Let us know how you are doing! If symptoms aren’t subsiding, we need to know this as well so we can tweak things a bit. Follow-up appointments take only 1 hour! We love to hear back from you. |

For example: if she is ovulating, she is attracted to men with rugged and masculine features. However, if she is menstruating or menopausal, she tends to be more attracted to a man with duct tape over his mouth and a spear lodged in his chest while he is on fire. No further studies are expected. |
